SunGard Tracks Carbon Footprint with GreenBoard Technology
September 15, 2009 — Wayne, PA
SunGard has implemented an environmental management solution from GreenBoard Technology to help it track its carbon footprint. GreenBoard Technology is a leading provider of enterprise carbon accounting and business solutions.
GreenBoard helps make it possible for SunGard to manage its performance towards achieving its sustainability goals including:
• Tracking energy consumption in its office facilities and data centers
• Tracking business travel undertaken by SunGard’s consultants and customer-facing staff
• Tracking employees’ commuter travel to and from work
• Calculating SunGard’s carbon footprint while identifying cost savings
GreenBoard’s Deep Green technology is used to automatically collect and roll-up data across SunGard’s facilities, IT operations and travel services. In order to calculate SunGard’s carbon footprint, millions of data points spanning three years had to be collected and normalized.
Peter Szalay, chief executive officer of GreenBoard Technology, said: “Estimating the carbon footprint of an organization of the scale and scope of SunGard requires a huge amount of data management. It also requires an in-depth knowledge of the algorithms to extrapolate for missing and incomplete data points. GreenBoard helps automate the whole data management process taking away the headaches and allowing SunGard to focus on its carbon reduction programs while revealing key operational expense reductions across its organization.”
GreenBoard Technology recently played an important role in helping SunGard’s UK Public Sector business achieve the requirements for ISO 140001 certification at its first attempt. ISO 14001 is an environmental management standard created to help organizations protect the environment, prevent pollution and improve their environmental performance.
Brian Robins, SunGard’s chief marketing officer, said: “SunGard is a very detail-oriented, data-driven company so it was natural for us to look for a solution to track the data associated with our energy consumption and business travel. Relying on GreenBoard to take care of the data management and carbon calculations enables us to focus our efforts on sustainable business practices. Companies that have an embedded culture of sustainable business practices have an advantage over those that don’t.”
